Republican John Kellner finally will be declared the winner in the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s race after a mandatory recount.

Kellner, who ran against Democrat Amy Padden, announced the victory Saturday afternoon on Twitter. Padden conceded by calling Kellner to congratulate him, her campaign said in a news release. Kellner will succeed District Attorney George Brauchler, who could not run for re-election because of term limits.

In her concession, Padden said the results had not been certified by the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office but she expected to lose by about 1,425 votes. The race had been close enough that a mandatory recount was required.

The 18th Judicial District covers Arapahoe, Douglas, Lincoln and Elbert counties.
